"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" Ephesians 5:22-25 (KJV)
You know what I really can't stand as a man trying to be right with God? I can't stand it when a husband cheats on his wife, and abuses his wife and then uses this scripture against her, "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord..." I can't stand it, because if they go just a few more verses they'd see that they're not doing their part as a husband, "...Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it..." Christ died for the church, and as a husband we must be willing to die for our wives. If we can't even remain faithful to our wives, or if we abuse our wives then how are we loving them as Christ loved us? Marriage is a two way street. Yes, the wife must submit to the husband and trust that the husband is doing what's right for them. BUT if the husband is abusive or if the husband has cheated on her, then how can she trust him? How can she do her part, if he fails to do his?
Likewise, how can he do his part as a husband if the wife fails to do her part? If a marriage is to work then both parties must do their part as stated in the Bible. They need to follow these principles. Marriages aren't working today and for so many reasons, one of those is the reversal of roles. You have the wife holding the fort down, providing for the family while the husband is in submission to her because she's the sole bread winner. Here the man has his wife out (the precious and fragile vessel,) doing his work. He isn't protecting and providing for her as he should be. I understand that some men may not be able to work due to a handicap or something, but there's still a responsibility to love your wife as Christ loves the church. There's also still the responsibility of the wife to submit to her husband. If anyone disagrees then I question how their marriage is doing.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help us to trust in you and to do our part in our marriage. Don't let our families crumble, be the glue that holds our families together. In Jesus name. A-men!
