2Pe 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ; Simon his proper name which means "hearing", then we read where Jesus added to Simon's name. John 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

To them that have obtained like precious faith with us - With us who are of Jewish origin and to embrace many who were of Gentile origin. The apostle addresses them all now, whatever was their origin, as heirs of the common faith, and as in all respects brethren.

Through the righteousness of God - Through the method of justification which God has adopted. Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

God and our Saviour Jesus Christ - "our God and Saviour." furnishes us scripture for the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: We see that God calls us and we obtain our faith through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. We can't do it on our own for there is nothing we can do apart from God; for He both provides us with the ability and the blessing to be His heir. We can accept this gift of Salvation and be His heir or we can refuse; the choice has been given to us. It is called a free will. Even if you have accepted Christ may years ago, the choice is still yours today; either to follow Him and walk in the newness of God's Spirit or deny His path day after day as you walk in the lusts of your flesh seeking your own needs. Riding the fence and trying to be a little of each is not possible for those who do in God's eyes are not His heirs, but lost in deceit. God knocks on the door of our heart and desires us to let Him in and fellowship; have a relationship with Him. He will provide all your needs; just ask. Today as we celebrate the 4th of July let us remember to give God thanks for all He has given to us and done for us. Thank You Jesus!

Prayer: God help us to follow you everyday, to put you first always and forgive us when we don't. In Jesus name. Amen.
