"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame." Proverbs 29:15 (KJV)
Ain't this the truth? My little nephew, not so little anymore went and got his girlfriend pregnant and he's only 15. I don't know how old she is... I guess there's a right way to correct your child and a wrong way, because I know my brother disciplined him. I saw him spank that boy plenty of times, but sometimes that just isn't enough. I guess sometimes a little attention and some good talking would serve better. You see, the same thing happened to my brother and now it's happening to his kid. Sometimes it might be good to bring up your mistakes to your children, to prevent the same path for them.
It's easy for me to say though, the closest I ever became to being a dad is being an uncle and helping my sister with her first born. It's a lot easier being an uncle, because for the most part you don't have to be "The bad guy." But guess what? Someone has to be, someone has to correct the kids. Someone has to sit down and talk to them about the real world. You can try and shield them from it, but when they get loose from your grip (and they will,) they won't know how to handle it. The only thing that got me off drugs was the talk my grandmother gave me once. I deeply respected her, so I listened. I probably would've had sex as a teen (Nobody ever talked to me about that,) but I didn't have anyone to have sex with honestly! LOL! I mean abstinence is a seed that has to be planted in you from a young age. Most people are afraid to talk to their kids about it, but you can't be. If you are, then maybe you should get someone else to do it... Either that or face the music. The bottomline is that children are in need of knowledge, not just book knowledge... Life knowledge! It's up to you to give it to them, nobody else will.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help those with children to raise them up to follow your footsteps. Let them pass knowledge onto their children. In Jesus name. A-men!
