"My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:18 (KJV)
It's easy to love with our mouths, but it takes someone really close to Jesus to love in deed and in truth. You go to church and often you'll find so many people talking behind other peoples' backs. But the same bad things they say to someone else, they won't say to the person they're talking about. They flatter with their lips, but their deeds lack true love. What I'm trying to say is that anyone can flatter you with their lips, anyone can love you with their mouth to your face... But it means nothing unless followed up by deed!
Some of us believe that we just need to love with our mouths, say the right things "God bless you," or "I love you!" Those things are nice, but what do they mean to a homeless man on the street if we don't help them? What do they mean to a hungry child if we don't give that child food? I have an example of loving in deed and in truth: I remember helping my mom out on the ice cream truck as a child. Every once in awhile we'd run across the poorer areas and there would be a child who just didn't have money to buy ice cream. They really wanted it too, so my mom would give it to them for free. It came out of her profit, it seems like a small thing... But it was a pretty big thing to those kids. If we can do SOMETHING, even something small that blesses someone else then we have loved. But we have to try and do all that we can, we have to actually do something besides just talk. The problem with Christianity today is that most of it's just talk. It's a great concept loving your neighbor and God, but few people ever get to see that concept in action. It's up to us to put it into action.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help us to do more than just talk, may we love in deed and in truth. In Jesus name. A-men!
