For our statement of faith, I'll simply post the lyrics to one of my favorite songs: Creed by Rich Mullins.

I believe in God the Father almighty

Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth

And in Jesus Christ

His only begotten Son, our Lord

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit

Born of the virgin Mary

Suffered under Pontius Pilate

He was crucified and dead and buried

CHORUS:

And I believe what I believe

Is what makes me what I am

I did not make it, no it is making me

It is the very...

I don't criticize the Bible just because I don't understand it. What I don't understand, I try to research, and if I still don't understand it,
I work on accepting it on faith. That is all that we have, faith.

As I stated, the concept of the divided Sheol isn't SCRIPTURAL (other than this one parable), it is cultural, and without an understanding of Jewish
culture, there are many things in scripture it is difficult for most people to understand. Being that I am a Jewish believer in Jesus, I have some insight that
most non-Jews don't have. When I can explain, I do. But there are still things in scripture that I don't understand. Those things, I accept by faith as
truth.

The statement "descended into hell" is a truth which is sometimes hard to understand because
of translation difficulties. In the Old Testament, when the resting place of the dead is mentioned, people are always "going down" or
"descending" into Sheol which is the resting place of the dead. In non-scriptural Jewish literature, "Sheol" has two
"compartments" - paradise (the resting place of the righteous dead, and gehenna (the resting place of the wicked). In Greek thought, there is no
distinction between the resting place of the righteous and the unrighteous, so the word used is usually gehenna, usually translated as hell. Read Luke 16 for
Jesus' parable of the rich man and Lazarus. When Jesus told the thief on the cross "Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise", he was referring
to the Jewish concept which was generally accepted in Jesus' day.
...

I question the "Descended Into Hell" part as it wasn't in the original Apostle's creed but was added later on.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

If Jesus went to suffer in hell then it wasn't finished.

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Hell isn't opened up until Revelation 19 and 20.

I'm not denying the existence of hell because I believe in it.

Psalm 22:12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong [bulls] of Bashan have beset me round.

I'm not sure what this verse is about but I have to examine all possibilities as my pastor gives hints.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the "song" by Rich Mullins is primarily based on "The Apostle's Creed" (hence, the name of the song is
Creed) which states:

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

The third day he rose again from the dead:
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:
I believe in the Holy Ghost:
I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:
The forgiveness of sins:
The resurrection of the body:
And the life everlasting. Amen.

In this passage, the word catholic merely means "united", not as in the Roman Catholic Church. The...
