(1) So what does "see" mean? Does it mean to have "understanding" and the ability to "appraise"?

(2) Does "see" mean "to experience" righteousness, peace, and joy?

I think about this a little differently. Paul wrote, in 1 Cor 2:14 "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are
foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.". People who have not been spiritually born can't see or
appreciate the things of God, because it takes "spiritual eyes" to see them. The things of the kingdom of God (righteousness and peace and joy in the
Holy Spirit from Rom 14:17) cannot be seen or appreciated by people in the world - they are visible only to those born of the Holy Spirit of God (i.e.,
believers in Jesus).

Hi, David. And thanks for the welcome.

This is a scripture that has always puzzeled me a little.

In ancient Greek culture, the word for "wind" was "spirit". When I think of the wind, I think of air in motion. For example I see leaves
move on a tree, and I understand that to be evidence of air in motion. The "wind" causes the leaves to move, and one can "see them move".

Jesus said that "the wind blows where it wants to, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So is
everyone that has born from the spirit." (John 3: 8)

(1) We don't know the origin (starting point) of wind.
(2) We don't know the end point (termination) of wind.
(3) We only hear the sound of wind.
(4) The sound is the manifestation of air in motion.
(5) The evidence of air in motion is in its sound.

Perhaps "born again" refers to...
